Welcome to Our Kingfisher Class Page!

English

This term we will be focusing on the texts : King Arthur and Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare. The children will learn about simple sentences before building them into compound or complex sentences. They will be writing character descriptions and will ultimately be writing their own version of the story. We will be working on our punctuation, specifically commas, apostrophes, and inverted commas to show speech.  We are also going to learn about using similes to improve our descriptions. We will also be developing our vocabulary, comprehension skills and practising handwriting leading to cursive joins.

  Maths

This term we will begin by looking at multiplication and divison. The children will be applying their knowledge of grouping to understand the meaning of the words and symbols. We will be doing this with dienes, before moving onto drawing. The children will develop their skills of problem solving using their new methods of multiplication. It is important children have a secure understanding of their times tables; please can this be built on at home.

  Science

 We will be learning about materials in Summer 1 before moving onto astronomy in Summer 2. The children will learn about the properties of materials and the inventor of Velcro. We will be carrying out multiple experiments to look at the properties of objects in different states (solids and liquids. During our astronomy topic, we will look at the planets in the solar system, constellations, and space exploration. At the end of Summer 1, the children will have the opportunity to attend the Space Centre, Leicester to grasp their interest ready for the topic. 

  Geography

In Summer 1, we will be looking at Northern Europe learning about the different countries and key landmarks, including fjords, waterfalls and mountains. We will be looking at adaptations of animals and local people to survive in the colder weather. As well as, learning about physical and human features.

History

We will be looking at Powerful Voices in Summer 2.  We will be exploring different people who have made a positive change throughout history. These include; Ghandi, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg, and David Attenborough.  

   Art

In Summer 1, we will be looking at history paintings, focusing on Theseus and the Minotaur. In Summer 2, we will be creating a class mural/ tapestry. During both of these topics, we will be looking at different artists and techniques used to create the best pieces of art work.

  DT

This term we will be creating moving pictures, using different techniques. 

  Music

The children will enjoy integrated approach to music where games, the dimensions of music (pulse, rhythm, pitch etc), singing and playing instruments are all linked. As well as learning to sing, play, improvise and compose. 

  RE

In RE this term we will be thinking about Sikhism. Children will be retelling lots of stories. The children will also be comparing the beliefs of Sikhs and the beliefs of Christians, looking at the similarities and differences between the two religions. The children will be digging deeper and asking questions about the world. 

  PSHE

This half term we will be looking at strategies for healthy and safer lifestyles. We give the children real life scenarios where there may feel unsafe and plan what they can do. We will be looking at the life-cycle and how we become more independent as we grow. The children will also be thinking about keeping safe around different chemicals and what safety symbols to look out for. We encourage children to talk about things with trusted adults whenever they get that “uh-oh” feeling or feeling pressured to do something they know is wrong.
PE

This half term we have PE on Monday mornings. Children will develop their games skills. This includes throwing and catching, as well as defending and attacking.

  Computing

We will be creating music on the computers, as well as displaying information in a fun and interesting way.
