Let’s get ready for some fantastic Spring learning!
English and Phonics
We will continue with our Sounds-Write phonics working through from unit 9 to unit 11. We have begun to introduce digraphs to the children, that’s 2 letters that make 1 sound such as ‘th’ and ck. The children will continue to bring home reading books this term. We ask that you read daily with your child to help with their segmenting and blending. Children are to bring books in daily to allow for the opportunity for adults at school to read with them. Books will be changed weekly to allow your children to build a fluency and understanding of each text. Our focused Literacy groups will continue to focus on the children’s letter formation through a range of writing activities. We will also use our phonic knowledge to write words and build sentences as we become more independent with our writing. Please continue to practice their names and any extra at home, we really do appreciate your support.
Maths
This term in Maths the children will continue to explore number with a focus on 9 and 10. We will ensure that children can confidently say the number names ‘zero’ to ‘ten’. Once they can do this, we will encourage them to match the verbal number names to numerals and quantities. Throughout this step, support children with the counting principles. We will encourage them to count up to 10 objects by touching each object as they count to support their one-to-one correspondence. The children will then be able to recognise that the final number they say tells them the total number of objects in the set, to develop their understanding of cardinality. We will continue to practise our subitising skills with a review before each lesson. We will also explore capacity and some different measures.
We will finish this half term exploring 2d and 3d shapes. We will look at their properties and how to describe them.
Understanding the World
In our understanding of the world lessons, we will have a focus this half term on growing and changing. We will begin by learning about the 4 season, Spring, summer autumn and winter. Whilst building our understanding of how people and places change over time. We will be looking at plants and animals and what they need to help them grow. We will finish by looking at ourselves and how we have changed over time. Thinking about things we can do now that we couldn’t before.
PE
Our PE this half term will be focused on movement. We will develop the control and movement of our bodies in a variety of ways. Our P.E day will be Wednesday, children will need their P.E kits on this day. You can either take this each week or leave in school for the half term.
PSHE
In our Personal, Social and Emotional Development lessons we will begin to think about ourselves and how our bodies change over time. We will think about how to keep ourselves clean and safe.
Art
In our Art we will look at the seasons and let them inspire our creativity. We will learn about the artist Lowry and create drawings of houses. We will revisit the artist Hundertwasser and his use of line.
RE
The children will be exploring Easter this half term. We will start with Palm Sunday and exploring why a pam cross is a special symbol.
