Kings and Queens
We will be learning about our monarch, King Charles III and we will be getting familiar with some key features of our monarchy including people in the Royal family, special places and traditions. We will also be learning about coronations and will learn key vocabulary such as orb and sceptre and recognising their importance. We will also be learning about King John and the Magna Carta to understand the concept that a monarch can't just do whatever they want. Lastly, we will also learn about our Government and that we have a Prime Minister who makes choices for our country.
English and Phonics
We will be learning the following sounds: <sh><ng><ch><wh> . We shall also begin looking at 5 letter words (CCVCC). We will be continuing to focus on our letter formation and applying our phonics via dictation through writing simple sentences, labelling and invitation writing.
Maths
We will looking at the numbers beyond 10 with the focus on representation of numbers and the verbal counting patterns. We will also be starting to apply our deep understanding of number to begin using the mathematical functions of adding and taking away. Lastly, we shall be looking at shapes and manipulating them and rotating to create different pictures.
Understanding the World
We will be looking at the story of the King John and the Magna Carta and King Charles III's coronation in Westminster Abbey (Past and Present/History). The children will also look at the monarchy and Royal Family residences such as Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Balmoral Castle, countries around the world that have King Charles III as their monarch and the Union Jack and Royal Standard flags (People, Culture and Communities/Geography). The children will look at the signs of Summer as well as designing a garden for the King. (The Natural World/Science).
Expressive Art and Design
We will look at animals in art through the study of Rousseu's "Tiger in a Tropical Storm". The children will also be painting real fish with ink and wax resist.
PE
We will learn to get changed independently. They will also be learning the importance about healthy lifestyles and exercise.
Personal Social and Emotional Development/PSHE
We will look at the unit of Healthy and Safer Lifestyles: Keeping Safe. The children will explore what safe means and develop skills to enable them to access help and support as well as helping others.
RE
We will learn about what makes a good friend and linking it to who Jesus' friends were. The children will be exploring this concept through stories of 'The magpie's tale' and 'The Rainbow Fish'.
