Wren Class

Wren Class

Welcome to Our Wren Class Page!

Let’s get ready for some fantastic Spring learning!

English and Phonics

We will continue with our Sounds-Write phonics working through from unit 6 to unit 8. The children will continue to bring home reading books this term. We ask that you read daily with your child to help with their segmenting and blending. Children are to bring books in daily to allow for the opportunity for adults at school to read with them. Books will be changed weekly to allow your children to build a fluency and understanding of each text. Our focused Literacy groups will continue to focus on the children’s letter formation through a range of writing activities. We will also use our phonic knowledge to write words and build sentences as we become more independent with our writing. Please continue to practice their names and any extra at home, we really do appreciate your support.

Maths

This term in Maths the children will continue to explore finding different representations of 6,7 and 8. We will ensure that children can confidently say the number names ‘zero’ to ‘eight’. Once they can do this, we will encourage them to match the verbal number names to numerals and quantities. Throughout this step, support children with the counting principles. We will encourage them to count up to 8 objects by touching each object as they count to support their one-to-one correspondence. The children will then be able to recognise that the final number they say tells them the total number of objects in the set, to develop their understanding of cardinality. We will continue to practise our subitising skills with a review before each lesson. We will also capacity and some different measures.

Understanding the World

In our understanding of the world lessons, we will have a focus this half term on space. We will begin learning about the Earth and the role of an astronaut. We will then look further afield at our own solar system and the planets within it, without forgetting the stars and how their stories are told in different cultures around the world.

PE

Our PE this half term will be focused on movement. We will develop the control and movement of our bodies in a variety of ways. Our P.E day will be Wednesday, children will need their P.E kits on this day. You can either take this each week or leave in school for the half term.

PSHE

In our Personal, Social and Emotional Development lessons we will begin to think a bit further than ourselves with our Citizenship module. We will look at the different people that are in our communities and the different ways that they help us. We will also think about the world and how we can help to look after it.

Art

In our Art we will Exploring line and taking a line for a walk. We will create drip paintings like Jackson Pollock. We will finish by creating pictures like Hundertwasser using spirals and curved lines.

RE

The children will begin their R.E by reflecting on the Christmas period and the ways we celebrated. We will then focus on the stories, traditions and celebrations of Chinese New Year!
