Maths

At St. John’s we want our children to receive a high quality mathematics education that ensures all pupils are:

  • Fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics
  • Have the ability to reason mathematically
  • Can apply their knowledge and understanding to solve problems

We believe that all students deserve the same opportunities to achieve their best in maths by the provision of a coherent, interconnected maths curriculum so that students leave us confident in mathematics and prepared to succeed in the next stage of their learning.

Our maths curriculum provides a broad, coherent and carefully sequenced course of study. It encourages learners to develop confidence in and a positive attitude toward mathematics as well as to recognise the importance of mathematics in their own lives and to society.

Here at St. John's, as part of our knowledge rich approach to all learning, we place great importance on the careful and effective structuring of our curriculum. As such, every lesson counts and provides the building blocks of knowledge and vocabulary for the next portion of learning. To ensure our curriculum is rigorously structured in this way so as to best support pupil progress in maths we have adopted the Complete Maths Curriculum which has been written based on current educational research and been reviewed extensively.
